MCG Brain Tumor Program The Brain Tumor Program at MCG is committed to provide state-of-the-art care according to the high standards pursued by the Neuroscience Center of Excellence at our academic institution. Neuro-Oncology is the subspecialty dedicated to the study and treatment of patients with brain tumors as well as any neurological complication of cancer. Every case is reviewed in depth by a multi-specialty brain tumor board at our weekly conferences, with participation by medical neuro-oncology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology, neuropathology, and neuroradiology. Board members make decisions and recommendations about patient management, based on an integrated consideration of the risks and benefits of different options. Precise diagnostic techniques are used for early detection and to clearly differentiate the tumor types and the specific chromosomal-genetic markers for prognosis and treatment. Participation in clinical trials from the National Cancer Institute, as well as from other investigator-initiated studies, is an essential goal of our brain tumor program. This allows our patients to be treated following the same specific and strict guidelines shared by other major academic institutions.
