MCG Midwifery

nurse midwife MCG Health System announces a new alternative to our many health care services – midwifery.

The MCG Health System Nurse-Midwives of Augusta are supported by one of the most comprehensive OB/GYN physician teams in the country. By providing childbirth alternatives for low-risk patients and additional gynecologic care, the nurse-midwives are giving the community something no other hospital in this area offers. Their approach to patient and family-centered care fits perfectly with what MCG Hospitals and Clinics is already teaching and delivering," said Dr. Lawrence D. Devoe, Brooks Professor and MCG Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology. "For women in childbirth, the nurse-midwives deliver at the MCG Hospital and remain with the hospitalized patients throughout labor.

Certified nurse-midwives are known for the skillful, intimate and loving care they provide to women and their families. These nurse-midwives have an infinite capacity to understand the needs of women and provide patience, knowledge, support and active participation in health care decisions," said Dr. Jane Blackwell. "Midwifery is an important component of MCG Health System's strategic initiatives.

MCG continues to offer the same professional and caring obstetric and gynecological services which we have been known for throughout the state and region, including in vitro fertilization, high-risk pregnancy, treatment of women with benign and malignant gynecological problems and chronic pelvic pain. Patient and family-centered care continues to be a priority, and we are pleased to expand health care options to the community with the addition of midwifery services.
